Till a few years back television was the main source of entertainment for a typical Indian. But with the internet accessibility and speeds increasing, things are changing. These days a lot of people, especially the youth, like to spend time on their laptops or smartphones than in front of TV. A lot of people just hate the content Indian TV channels offer – the same crappy saas-bahu serials, same pseudo intellectuals shouting on news channels, and boring and pretentious comedy and reality shows. Seriously, Indian TV channels produce some of the best crap content in the world.
2016 was the best year for the online audiences who prefer to watch newly released movies and good TV shows on their laptops and smartphones. Netflix was launched in January in India while Amazon Prime Video was launched in December. These are the world’s two most popular on demand video services and if it was a few months back we would have to just compare the prices and features of Amazon Prime Video and Netflix and make our decision.
But but but.. Reliance Jio has totally changed the game. The most revolutionary product in the telecom history of India – Jio – has offered almost everything one can desire – for FREE. Jio TV App offers more than 400 channels LIVE for free and note that the includes even premium international channel. Jio is also making the movie streaming available on its Cinema App.
Let’s first talk about Amazon Prime. It has just launched in India and the Indian version doesn’t have a lot of movies and shows that are available in the US or European versions. The cost is reasonable at Rs499 per year. But it doesn’t have many shows from Indian TV channels. Prime also offers HD video viewing.
On the other hand, Netflix has much more options when it comes to selection of movies and TV shows but it is really expensive it’s basic version costs Rs.500 a month, HD version is at Rs. 600 per month and Ultra HD at Rs. 800 per month. Now, that makes Netflix much more expensive than Amazon Prime Video.
Now come our desi competitors Jio TV and Jio Cinema apps. Well, they are free. And Jio offers you a huge number of TV channels LIVE as well as TV shows and movies. Isn’t it a no brainer? If you are still confused here is more.
Even if you purchase Amazon and Netflix memberships, you would still need to use some 4G data.. I mean A LOT of data.. to use these services. And you should have really good internet speeds for smooth video streaming. So, you will have to shell out a lot of money to your telecom company and still you will have problems because of speed.
On the other hand, Jio not only offers the membership to its premium services for free but also gives you 4G data to use them for free. Well at least till 31st march you have everything for free. And we are sure that even after that Jio is going to be really inexpensive and affordable.
So, in our Opinion, Reliance Jio is the Winner here. Let us know what you think.
